Downloading and Unzipping Elements from SBB with Microsoft XP

This tutorial uses the extraction wizard that is part of the Microsoft XP PC Operating System. The steps may be achieved differently with other OS versions.

Select the element of your choice and click on the link for the zip file. A small new window will open select Save.

The Save As dialog will open prompting you to either select the existing file name or rename the file.

You can also browse to a location of your choice to save the file to. This may be a folder you have already established specifically for downloaded elements or in a location that suits you. Make sure you know where the file is being downloaded to so you can locate it later.

Choose Save to begin the download. The download dialog box will show you the progress of the download.

When the download is complete open “My Documents” and browse to the location of the saved file. Right click on the zipped file. Right click on the zipped file and select Extract All from the menu choices. The extraction wizard will open. Select next.

You can select a location for the files to extract to- the default setting will choose the same location where the zipped folder is. Click next to begin the extraction. On the last window the box tells you the name of the file and the location of it as well as reports if the file has been unzipped successfully or not. Sometimes zip files have errors that mean the file is corrupt. You can either try the unzip process again or re download the file.

You can select to Show extracted files which will launch the unzipped folder immediately. Click Finish to close the Extraction wizard.

You can use third party programs to download multiple zip files. Some in use by members include: MASS DOWNLOADER

WACKGET

PKUNZIP

WINRAR

UNZIP

DOWNLOADTHEMALL - only for use with Firefox browser

DOWNLOAD ACCELERATOR PLUS

Importing the files vary from program to program.   In most cases you would launch your program and choose Open or Import or similar to bring the file into your program. Please read your programs help files for more information if required.
