This tutorial will show you how to crop into a circle shape using Photoshop 7.0.

Step 1: Open the image you wish to crop into a circle, File > Open.

Step 2: Duplicate the locked background layer by using your mouse and right clicking on the locked background layer:  Select Duplicate Layer from the drop down list.

Step 3: Delete the locked background layer and work from the duplicated unlocked layer. This new layer should be active or highlighted.

Step 4: Choose the Elliptical Marquee Tool from the Tools menu (right click using your mouse to change the marquee tool).

Note: If you do not see the Tools menu, go to Window > Tools.

Step 5: Press the Shift key, and press the left mouse button and drag the Elliptical Marquee Tool to the desired size.  Release the mouse button and shift button and you should see the “marching ants”.

Step 6: Select Edit > Copy.

Step 7: Create a new layer by clicking on the “Create a new layer” on the Layers Palette.

Note: If you do not see the Layers Palette, go to Window > Layers.

Step 8: Make sure this new layer is active and press Edit > Paste.

Step 9: Now you can delete the background layer or click the eye to make the layer “disappear”.  You should now only see the cropped circle.
