On occasion designers include multiple objects in one .png
file. This is most common with Alpha’s as it reduces overall file sizes. This
tutorial shows you how to isolate an object to use in a project for DIP v9 and
v10.
Open the file to your workspace.
To protect the original document choose Edit> Duplicate
Whole Project. Close the original file and work on the duplicate file.
Choose the Marquee Selection tool.
Choose a shape from the fly out to suit. In this case a
circle or square would work equally well.
To select a single object position the cursor at the top
left hand corner of the object an drag to the right and down on a diagonal to
make the selection.
If necessary choose Adjust marquee to make adjustments to
the selection area. Click Done to apply the adjustments.
When you have the appropriate area selected you can:
* Choose Edit > Copy and switch to another project to Edit>
Paste the object in. [CTRL+C then CTRL+V]
* Choose Edit > Duplicate [CTRL+D]
* Choose Edit> Cut and switch to another project to paste
the object in.
To make a selection of multiple objects change the
Selection Mode to +
You will still have to separate the objects when you move
onto a new project.
* If the objects on the page are irregularly shaped and
cannot be selected with the Marquee Tool then use the Freehand tool to draw
loosely around the object.
