What is a Circle Journal Scrapbook?

Simply put, you will make one layout (a scrapbook page) for each person in your group. You will follow instructions they give you on how they want their page to be made. Sometimes the instructions are very general, sometimes they are very specific. But, all the instructions give you a "theme" to go by (click here to see a list of ideas for themes). When you are done with a team members page you will send it to her so she can print it out and put it in her scrapbook. Everyone in the group does this for each team member. Teammates make pages for you, You make pages for each of them. Simple!

In the end, you will have received one page from each friend in the group, about your "topic" or "theme". You will personally create one layout with your own theme for yourself (this page is usually done first). You will create a "Title" page for your scrapbook, or "Cover Page" telling what your book is about. And, you will create a "Sign In Page" that will list all of your team members and a little info about each of them.

A Circle Journal Scrapbook consists of:
1. One page made yourself, for yourself, using your own theme.
2. A page (single or double layout) from each member in your CJ group (6 team mates = 6 pages/layouts), each based on the theme and instructions you gave them.
3. A "Title" or "Cover Page" -- you create this page yourself and include the date you started.
4. A "Sign In Page" -- you create this page yourself, also. You must gather info from each team mate to complete this page. You can list any type of info you want about your team mates but the basic info is like this:

Steps For A Online Digital Circle Journal Group
**These steps can be altered in anyway to fit the desire or goal of the group. These are NOT hard and fast rules! Just a basic beginning.**

A beginners group could be around 6 to 8 scrappers. And, the group needs to have a thread where they can introduce themselves and post information to each other. Having a Host (someone who has done CJs before) who can guide you through all the steps is also good to have. If you need a Host, you can post a request for one in the forum at SBB

Before you begin: The host or someone in your group needs to organize a list that includes everyone in your group: their real name, sbb name, and email address. This list is best done in NotePad as a .txt file. This list then needs to be emailed out to everyone in the group. This is very important as everyone will need to be able to send their layouts via YOU SEND IT when they are done.

Step 1:
Pick a theme. A theme is what your album is about. For example: "Favorite Children's Books" or "Funny Animal Stories"
If you have any trouble with this there is a list posted
HERE .

Also check out the gallery. There are lots of CJ layouts. They can be found HERE

Once you have your theme, let your teammates know.

Step 2:
Now what? Decide if you want some colors, or a SBB free kit used for your scrapbook. This is optional. You may just want others to use their full imaginative powers and have each page in your scrapbook be completely different. However, if you would like specific colors used then you need to make a "color swatch" at 72dpi for your team members to see. If you would like your team members to use a free kit from SBB then you will need the web address and the name of the kit for your team members to download.

Step 3:

Open NotePad and type the following information & instructions:
your real name,
your SBB name,
your e-mail address,
the size of layout you want,
if you want a one-page layout or a full two-page layout,
your topic/theme
instructions about your topic (if any),
SBB kit Web address (if any),
any other information pertinent to making your page.
Also, let your team mates know if you want them to sign the page that they made for you.
For example: by Sheryl Griffin - Yazolino Girl (optional: give them instructions where on the page to put the signature and in what font).

Lastly, save this text in .txt format as: "yourname_CJ6_myinstructions.txt".
Step 4:
If you have a Host, email your .txt file and color swatch (if you have one) to her so she can organize them for the whole group. If you do not have a Host, email these items to each member in your group.

Once everyone in the group has completed the first 4 steps, then you should move on to making your first page in step 5.

Step 5:
Everyone in the group should now start making their first page. Start with making your own page for your own book. This will give others in your group an idea of what your theme is about. Of course, follow your own instructions :) and then post your layout in the SBB Circle Journal Gallery. Remember, to post the link to your layout in your CJ groups thread so everyone can go see it and tell you how magnificent you did!!!

Hint: I know you already know this but, here is a reminder from personal experience... ALWAYS save your final high resolution layout (the one you are going to print out) BEFORE resizing it for the SBB web gallery. When you resize your layout down to 72 dpi , save with a different name!!!!!!! Maybe use the word "web" in your file name so you know which one it is. This is not a fun lesson to learn the "hard way" :(

About timing: Please know that everyone is welcome to work at their own pace. It might be good to set a goal of finishing your pages within a one to two weeks span. However, that won't work out every single time unless you're "perfect" with your time scheduling. Some layouts will take more time than others, and some of us will have unexpected things come up. The only thing I highly encourage you to do is to keep in touch with your group by posting in your thread regularly, every few days or so would be great! Just let them know how you're doing and pop in to say hi. If you get stuck on a layout and can't come up with an idea by all means let the group know. I had a hard time coming up with a layout for the topic "Top 10..." , I posted my frustration to the group and they posted a lot of different ideas which got the ball rolling for me. I finished a beautiful layout that I was so proud of called "top 10 reasons you're the best mom in the world". The main thing is to have fun and to do this together!

Step 6:
As a group you can decide what to work on next (each others pages, cover page, or Sign In Page). Most opt to get started on each others page. How does this work? Look at the "List" of teammates that was sent to you at the beginning. Start making a page for the person that is listed directly below your name. Keep moving down in this fashion until you have completed one layout for each person on the list. The person at the bottom of the list should, of course, start with the person at the top of the list.

When you finish with a teammates layout save it three ways:
1. Save your original "working" file with all the layers, in case you want to go back and change something later
2. Save as a .jpg with the highest quality and send to your teammate via You Send It
3. Resize to 72 dpi and Save (with a different name!!!) to upload at SBB gallery.

Keep making pages until you are all done with the list.

Step 7:
You will need to make a "Sign In Page". This is a page that lists all your teammates and a little bit about them. You will need to either collect this information from them by sending out an email questionnaire, they answer your questions and send it back to you. Then you will make your page using the info you gather about each person.... OR send each teammate a "tag" element and ask them to fill the tag with "such and such" information. When they fill out the tag then they send it back to you. You will place the tags on your page how you want them.
Here is some ideas for your teammate "Signatures":

Full name
Where they live
their picture or avatar
what page did they make for you
their SBB name
the date
their favorite color / or ice cream / or element designer / or ....

Last Step:
Well, now all you have to do is create your cover page and print out all the pages. Assemble them into an album and place on your coffee table for all your friends and family to ouuhhhh and ahhhhh over !!! Enjoy! You did it.

If you and your group want to stay together... consider other projects to continue doing together like making a freebie kit for SBB or another CJ round! Just keep having fun.
