PROGRAM BASIC: Make a Custom Stamp

It’s very simple to create your own custom stamps in Digital Image Pro. This tutorial should work for versions 7 to 2006.

Choose the image you want to make into a stamp. The image can be anything you like but you are restricted in what size you can stamp at. I’ve chosen a simple flower I have created. See THIS tutorial to learn how to convert PS abr brushes for use in DIP as stamps.

Place the image on a new canvas.

File > New – In this case I have chosen a 300dp I canvas, 3inches x 3inches square.

Save the image to your preferred location on your hard drive. File > Save As.

Launch the project you wish to stamp on. In this case I am going to create a simple background using my stamp so I have created a 8x8 300dpi canvas and created a plain background.

If you want your stamps to be on a separate layer you must do the following, otherwise when you finish stamping and select Done the stamps will be merged with the project you are stamping on.

Before continuing on to choose Stamps, select Insert> Shape> Square and with the square selected choose Format> Resize Object to Fit Canvas> Stretch to Fit.

Remove the line of the shape by selecting the line icon on the pictorial menu bar > More> None. Then select the Paint Bucket on the pictorial menu bar and choose No Fill

You will see in the stack that there is an invisible layer created

Keep the invisible layer selected and then continue…

Choose Effects> Paintbrush> Stamps

Choose Make a Stamp from the menu that appears at left. Choose Open a Picture from the options.

The file browser will launch, browse to find your image and choose OK.

The Stamp Painting window will appear again. Click on Select a Stamp and your stamp should be last in the list, click it to choose it.

You can change the size of the stamp using the slider ( from 1 to 400pixels).

Position your cursor over your project and it will change to a circular shape with a crosshair at center.

Click to stamp.

I have continued stamping my image over the paper, with the result below, changing the size of the stamp as I go. If you make an error you can choose “Undo last action” or choose “Reset” to start again.

When satisfied choose Done.

***Other Options***

Choose Shapes as the stamping style, choose the circle and choose a color using the “Customise a stamp” menu. Stamp the circle. Choose Erase as the stamping style, select any stamp and stamp inside the circle. The shape of the second stamp will erase a section of the circle.

Choose “Paint by dragging” or Overlapped Stamps as a stamping style to create a merged line of stamps.

Choose “Customize a stamp. Adjust the transparency of the stamp

Give the stamp some texture by choosing select a Paper Texture.

You can change all of the options between one stamp and another.

You can download extra stamps from the SBB Element gallery that have been donated by SBB members – or add your own to the collection.

Happy Stamping!
