Using the Replace color tool is ideal for changing specific ranges of colors. Changing the color of clothing, flowers, or a color in a background paper or element is relatively quick and easy.

Open your photo to the canvas File > Open (CTRL + o)
Rotate the photo if necessary Image> Rotate Canvas

Fit the photo to your screen (View>Fit to Screen OR Zoom tool >Fit to screen OR CTRL+0)

Duplicate the background to work on (Layer> Duplicate Layer OR CTRL +j OR right click on the background in the layers palette and choose Duplicate Layer)

Select Image> Adjustments > Replace Color

The Replace Color palette will open

Make sure Preview is checked. Choose the Selection Radio button

Move your cursor to the photo, it will turn into an eyedropper or a crosshair depending on the preferences settings. Click on the color that you want to replace.

In the Selection window you will see where the color has been recognized. Increase or decrease the fuzziness slider as required until as much as possible of the color is selected by the white mask, without affecting colors in other parts of the image.

Now manipulate the Hue, Saturation and Lightness sliders to change the color or select a precise color by typing in the values.

You may need to adjust the Fuzziness slider again.
Click OK to apply the change.
You may need to touch up small areas with a brush or clone tool if it has missed areas. For areas that have been affected that should not have been, use the eraser tool to erase the part of the top layer to show the original color from the background layer.

Replacing a color in a paper uses exactly the same process.
