So much....
There has been so muc going on both @ home here and @ Scrapbook-Bytes! Here at home - my kids head back to school on September 8th. Bittersweet it is - anxious to have a quiet house to myself and regain a sense of accomplishing thing I actually set out to do during the day; but at the same time - I know I will miss my kids and that constant chatter and just them being here in general!
At Scrapbook-Bytes - we have opened our door to two new designers this week!
Aja is having 30% off all products through 9/6
Trixie Scraps Designs 30% off through September

Newsletter Quick Tip
"Colorizing"
Photoshop | Photoshop Elements | Paint Shop Pro
Colorizing is a "must" for me when I scrapbook. Sometimes I LOVE the paper in a kit but it's just not the right color for the photos I'm working with. No problem! I will show you below how to quickly make any paper the right color for your layout if you run into that issue. I use this not only on my papers but using more advanced techniques too like selecting certain parts of an element or even on an entire photo on a separate layer and adjusting the opacity/blending modes - but we can get into that a bit more later.
The tutorials below use JennCk Designs' "Concrete Sunrise" paper for the examples.
Get it still on sale for 40% off in the Scrapbook-Bytes store too!

Photoshop
(i am using version PS CS3; but should be similar in other versions)
- Open the paper/image, etc. that you want to change the color of.
- Make a copy of the paper so that you don't accidently save over the original.
- Right Click the top of your image and select "duplicate image"

- Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation or just hit "Ctrl + U" (it's the shortcut and the quickest way to do this especially if you use it frequently)

- Next be sure the "show preview" and "colorize" boxes are checked/active.

- Using the various sliders you can change/adjust the colors quickly.
- When completed, click ok.
- Use the paper as you normally would now on your layout/project.
(shown below is the before (L) and after (R))

Photoshop Elements
(i am using version PSE 8; but should be similar in other versions)
- Open the paper/image, etc. that you want to change the color of.
- Make a copy of the paper so that you don't accidently save over the original.
- In the project bin - right click on the preveiw of your opened image > select "duplicate"
- Next rename the copied image if you want or just let photoshop elements default rename it (you won't be saving it anyways - it's just your working copy of the image before placing it on your layout/project).

- Enhance > Adjust Color > Adjust Hue/Saturation OR just use the shortcut key "Ctrl + U"

- Next be sure the "show preview" and "colorize" boxes are checked/active.
- Using the various sliders you can change/adjust the colors quickly.
- When completed, click ok.
- Use the paper as you normally would now on your layout/project.
Paint Shop Pro
(i am using version X2; but should be similar in other versions)
a great resource for keyboard shortcuts for Paint Shop Pro can be found here.
- Open the paper/image, etc. that you want to change the color of.
- Make a copy of the paper so that you don't accidently save over the original.
- "Shift + D" makes a duplicate of your open image
- Image > Adjust > Hue/Saturation > Colorize or just hit "Shift + L" (it's the shortcut and the quickest way to do this especially if you use it frequently)

- Next be sure the "show on preview" is checkmarked if you want to view the changes as you work on the actual paper opposed to the preview pane.

- Using the various sliders you can change/adjust the colors quickly.
- When completed, click ok.
- Use the paper as you normally would now on your layout/project.
